The beech-fir forest of Irati, a true forest of forests, covers more than 17,000 hectares and is one of the largest and best conserved areas of woodland in Europe.

It is a great place to visit any time of the year. In spring, the beech trees gleam with their new-found greenery. In summer, a stroll in the shade beneath its thick leafy canopy is one of the best ways to escape the heat of the sun. In autumn, the trees put on a wonderful varicoloured show of ochre and russet. And, in winter, Nordic skiing or snowshoeing through the woods is an absolute delight.
